Fulham Forgotten- Paul Konchesky

Posted on March 2, 2010

Ok, so it’s completely unfair to induct our stalwart left back Paul Konchesky into the ranks of the Fulham Forgotten- he’s hardly an Andranik, or a Fredrik Stoor, or an Eddie Johnson.  It’s only been a couple of months since he was injured.  Before that he was a major contributor to a lockdown defense that was a major reason why we’re playing grown-up, big-boy soccer in Europe right now.  And yet, with the addition of Nicky Shorey, the clamor for Paul to come back has been a little muted.  Me personally, I’m not 100% sure there’ll be an automatic place for him in the first team when he gets healthy again, and in a head-to-head matchup for the starting gig with Shorey, I think Nicky wins.

Goal compilations for defenders set to trance beats or Evanescence songs  are pretty rare.  Doesn’t matter.  All I really want to do is watch this rocket from the left foot….over….and over….and over….

A few things to note- 1) that was the soccer equivalent of a basketball center pulling up from about 33 feet out, thinking “Nobody’s on me, what the heck, I’ll pull the trigger,” and draining the three.  2)  On the celebration, he might have tried to kiss Dickson Etuhu a couple of times- it was hard to tell.  I won’t speculate further.  3) Did we really once go 7+ hours in Premier League play without a goal?  That must have been a rough stretch of play for the fans to watch.  Yikes.
